Beddy Bye Top Ten: Beds Are Burning (#6)

Halfway through the list of songs with "bed" in the title, started to celebrate my new bed. My bed is quite comfortable, and it seems as though my shoulder pain is easing up some. Great! Speaking of "great," here's the next song on the list. #6: Beds Are Burning - Midnight Oil A nice little protest song that you can dance to. This has nothing to do with beds; rather, it's a passionate plea from Australia's Midnight Oil about the rights of Aboriginal land ownership. While the political/protest aspect of the song definitely wasn't lost on the peoples who'd had their land taken from them (e.g., the American Indians), most people just enjoyed dancing to it (see posted video below, where Midnight Oil made their point by having the word sorry on their clothing at the Sydney Olympics....while everyone danced while their beds were burning). Lead singer Peter Garrett was also a member of the Australian House of Representatives. An important song for then, now, and all time. Such a great band. I am particularly fond of Red Sails in the Sunset. And Peter's "I can dance weirder than David Byrne" style!
