1919 - The Cincinnati Reds won the World Series, resulting in the Black Sox scandal.
1936 - Boulder Dam (later known as Hoover Dam), begins to generate electricity to Los Angeles.
1940 - John Lennon was born. He was an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and peace activist. He was the founder, co-lead singer and rhythm guitarist for the Beatles. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney remains the most successful in history. After the breakup of the band in 1970, Lennon continued on as a solo artist. Songs: Imagine, Give Peace a Chance (see below) and Instant Karma! He was murdered by a fan in 1980.
1952 - Sharon Osbourne was born. She is an English television personality, businesswoman, music manager, author and wife of Ozzy Osbourne. She has appeared on The Osbournes, The X Factor, America's Got Talent and The Talk.
