Oh, if John got a shock yesterday with the inclusion of Homer & Jethro in a countdown, he’ll faint today when he notices who’s showing up next on my list of songs with “bed” in the title. This is celebrating my new Tempur-Pedic bed (which I only own 23 more payments on!!!!). And there’s still more shock coming in future days....but at least Linda will be along for that “surprise.” Meanwhile, here’s today’s song. #4: Pink Bedroom - John Hiatt Oh, lookie, it’s someone I’ve never used before! What can I say. My man, John Hiatt, appears with a rip-roaring rocker about a teenage girl who’s hip as she can be (“she’s got her records and they’re all imports”) and looking for love on the phone (“he don’t call, she sticks another pin in her doll”). Wadaya know, she finds it....and, as they say, be careful what you wish for. Apparently she gets a disease (“and now they’re drawing blood for a grown-up test”). But the doll is finished being traumatized (“her doll is so relieved she’s lost her innocence”). A serious subject buried beneath layers of humor and rock. That’s John Hiatt for you. Pink Bedroom Written by John Hiatt Recorded by John Hiatt From Two-Bit Monsters, 1980 She’s got it all (including Sonny Landreth smoking on slide guitar!):
From a TV concert in Hamburg, Germany on Oct. 9'th, 1987. You don't hear this song live very often.

Hiatt is a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member. He’s far better known as a songwriter than through his own recordings (where he has a “cult” following at best). Roseanne Cash covered this song (she’s done a few of his, including a duet with him on “The Way We Make a Broken Heart”).

@LindaOHio -- he also wrote a number of rock hits, like “Angel Eyes,” “Sure As I’m Sittin’ Here,” “Riding With the King,” and “Thing Called Love.”

@FourWalls I'm not much of a country fan; so that's probably why I haven't heard of him.

Huh. Not as many "Never heard of it" comments as I thought there would be. Pretty much why I've lost interest in writing about music on here. "Never heard of it." No kidding. I know you don't know it.
