Camping Food

We have not been camping in years, but we decided we are going next weekend, but only for one night due to out work schedules. When we went camping before, we would plan out all these elaborate meals (well, elaborate considering we were living outdoors) but for only one night, I don't want to put a lot of effort in planning and cooking meals. We do have a camp stove, not sure if we are bringing it though. Of course there will be a campfire, but from the forecast, it looks like rain, so we might not have a fire to cook on. So I am reaching out hoping someone has some easy, filling, and nutritious meals and snacks I can prepare before the camp-out.

You could bring packets of breakfast cereal. I suggest taking dried fruit bars. Today I ate some dry apricots with some nuts. It made a very healthy snack. Maybe you could heat a potato and beans on your camp stove.

@maximax8 maksima is Hebrew for charming (female) (maksim is hebrew for charming for male). You are maximum maksima :-) I also recommend dried fruits as a snack. Figs, dates, nuts (whole nuts, pekans...). They may have no fire to cook because of the rain, so, I can only hope there will be a usb low voltage stove that can be powered by a dynamo or...a battery...

Well, hmm. I would bring the camp stove just because you may not be able to do a fire. Are you going to be able to place the stove under the cover of a canopy or shelter? You can prepare a foil packet of food like bell peppers, onions, some sliced steak etc and cook it over a fire. It would be simple prep. I'm guessing you are looking more for things that doesn't necessarily need re-heating?

@Carmelanirel2 Maybe just some snack type foods then. Especially if you arent' sure you'll bring a stove at all.

@ScribbledAdNauseum As you know, they do have a full kitchen. I'll still cook some things over a campfire though, like smores

I looking for something healthy and filling and that my son would eat. I mean, I wouldn't mind sandwiches with fruit and veggies, but my husband probably wants more than that. At the same time, I don't want to spend a lot of time cooking, I want to spend time with my friends.

I haven't been camping since I was about 16. I loved it. My children's father didn't like camping so he would never do it. My kids don't like the outdoors just like their father felt so we never go camping. If you have a cast iron pan you can set it over the fire and cook beans or soup etc.

I'm sorry, that must stink that you don't have anyone to go camping with. I think the only thing my son would eat from cast iron is corn bread. lol Besides, with it being only one night and the chance that the weather can prevent us from cooking on a fire, I want something healthy and filling, but I can prepare without a fire and that it doesn't take a long time.

I hope you have a wonderful time!! This Summer we stayed one night in a log cabin and had a great time. Also, due to my husband's work schedule we could only do it for that long.

@LovingMyBabies I found out they have a full kitchen, so we are going to make something here and reheat it there.

Hi @LovingMyBabies I wouldn't have a problem with a cabin, no worries about how to cook food if the weather turns bad.

You can bring cereal and milk. I would definitely suggest you bring the camp stove so you can prepare food. Any can goods will work. You could make sandwiches and salad a head of time and have that.
