National M&M Day National Yorkshire Pudding Day 1792 - The cornerstone of the U. S. Executive Mansion (called the White House in 1818) is laid. 1983 - The first U. S. cellular network is launched in Chicago by Ameritech Mobile Communications. 1941 - Paul Simon was born. He is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and actor. His musical career has spanned 7 decades, beginning as half the duo of Simon & Garfunkel starting in 1956 with Art Garfunkel. Simon wrote most of the songs, including The Sound of Silence (see below), Mrs. Robinson and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. They split up in 1970; and Simon went on to a solo career and recorded Still Crazy After All These Years. He has received many honors. 1959 - Marie Osmond was born. She is an American singer, actress, author, philanthropist and talk show host. In the 1970s and 1980s she had a successful solo career and recorded Paper Roses.
