1888 - Thomas Edison files a patent for the Optical Phonograph (the first movie).
1907 - Marconi begins the first commercial transatlantic wireless service.
1938 - Evil Knievel was born. He was an American motorcycle rider, stuntman and entertainer. He attempted more than 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps. He died in 2007 of pulmonary disease.
1941 - Jim Seals was born. He was half of the American soft rock duo of Seals and Crofts. The duo was active from 1969-1980, 1991-1992 and 2004 when they released their last album, "Traces". They are famous for "Summer Breeze", "Diamond Girl" (see below) and "Get Closer".
1948 - George Wendt was born. He is an American actor and comedian best known for his role as Norm Peterson on "Cheers" from 1982-1993. He was nominated for 6 consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards. Some of his movies: Fletch, Gung Ho, Dreamscape, House, Forever Young, Man of the House and Lakeboat.
