Thinking about my little cat Dusky loving to lick plastic and my (now deceased) Jules who loved chewing rubber bands, I suddenly remembered one of my neighbour's cats.
He had two Burmese cats and we discovered that one of them liked coming in through our cat flap. We shoo-ed him away and didn't see him for a while.
One night we took some bread rolls out of our freezer ready for the next day and left them to defrost on our draining board in the kitchen. The following morning when we got up we discovered the bread rolls on the floor but the plastic freezer bag had gone.
We obviously threw the bread rolls out for the birds but had no idea where the bag had gone.
A few nights later Adam decided he'd have steak the following day so he took it out of the freezer, left it on the draining board and the next morning, lo and behold, the steak was on the kitchen floor and the bag was nowhere to be seen.
Adam happened to look out of our kitchen window while he was bewailing the fact that his lovely steak would have to be fed to the birds and saw the little Burmese cat out in our garden with the freezer bag in front of him just having a wash.
Strangely, he didn't come back any more. We realised that he probably didn't want bread rolls when he took the first bag but what cat doesn't love steak??
We spoke to the cat's owner, Nigel, when we happened to see him and told him what had happened and he apologised. We just told him it wasn't his fault as cats do their own thing and we really weren't worried about it but he then divulged that he had on occasions got up in the morning and found plastic bags on his kitchen floor and just assumed one of other of his cats had found them lying around his house.
