1988 - Doug Dorsey is late for hockey practice with the U. S. Olympic team. Kate Mosely is practicing her figure skating routines. Kate's coach, Rick Tuttle, criticizes her routine; Kate says her partner is inadequate. Doug races to the ice rink. Jack Mosely, Kate's father, urges her to apologize. Kate is rounding the corner in the hallway. Doug runs into her and knocks her down. This is Doug and Kate's first unofficial meeting.
Later that night Doug scores a goal and is deliberately hit in the head by a player from the opposing team. Doug loses 18 degrees of peripheral vision in his right eye and is told he can no longer play hockey effectively, which shoots down his chances to play in the NHL. Meanwhile in Calgary, Kate's partner drops her on the ice; and they lose any chance for a medal.
1990 - Kate is now training for the 1992 Winter Olympics but has driven away every chance of having a partner with her snooty attitude and perfectionism. Her coach, Anton Pamchenko wants to find someone who is not familiar with Kate Mosely.
Doug is back home in Minnesota working at a steel mill and living with his brother. After work Doug goes to his older brother's bar. Walter says that he has a letter for him. It's from the Detroit Red Wings -- another rejection for Doug.
Anton Pamchenko manages to find Doug and offers him another opportunity to skate in the Olympics. As much as Doug detests figure skating, he wants another chance at gold; so he accepts.
The first practice session with Kate does not go well; and Kate's attitude gets on Doug's nerves immediately. Jack tells Doug that he should be flattered that he was chosen to try-out with Kate because Anton is a world-class judge of skating talent. He gives Doug a check and a plane ticket for his time. Doug mulls it over, balls up the check and says, "Double or nothing".
You will enjoy this movie especially if you like figure skating; because the skating is superb. Listen to the music in this movie by Patrick Williams. If you like it, it's available on a CD. Moira Kelly plays a perfect little diva; and D. B. Sweeney plays the perfect hockey player...he's more down-to-earth. If you'd like to find out what happens in this movie, you'll just have to watch it! I recommend it; not as a movie you'll necessarily watch over and over again; but one you will enjoy for a Friday or Saturday movie night at home.
This movie is rated PG.

You will enjoy it. And it is safe enough that your ice princess and hockey boy can watch also.

@DianneN I think you'll like it; and with a PG rating, it should be OK for even Doodles!

It's nice because it has a PG rating. So many movies today have so much foul language, etc.

@CarolDM I know! What's with that? Every year it seems that they push it just a little bit more and add a word that they don't blip.
