Another hike in the rent.

Every year my landlord raises the rent. It is ridiculous how they are able to get away with it. No new service is being incorporated by the landlord to further benefit the tenants that would justify these rent hikes. I have no idea what I'm paying more for. I only know I have to. There should be a law that places a rent cap on landlords so they can't raise it every year. Every 5 years should be the minimum or at least if you're going to raise the rent, offer a new service to benefit the tenants so they know what it is they're paying more for.

Over here there is a rental law that allows a landlord to increase the rent every year to a maximum of 20%. We have been renting before and I understand the burden of the tenants.

Homelessness is very big problem everywhere. Instead of dealing with the problem and finding solutions to the mess they've made, governments do all they can to make the problem worse.

@Starmaiden you are right. Some lawmakers are out of touch with the masses that they should serve.

Here we have rental boards that will look to see if the raise is justified or excessive.

The tenancy board here serves the landlord only. Taking anything to the board is a lost cause.

Maybe you should had agreed to a written contract before you rented. How much percent does he raise it every year?

Cost of living goes up. So does rent.

What I'd like to know is who decides the 'cost of living' or anything for that matter.

It is more hassle to move out than staying where I am. The first concern is the damage deposit. No matter how well kept and clean I leave any of my rented apartments before moving, I have never received my damage deposit back and must always pay another one to any new landlord before moving in. That's money I can't make appear on demand.
