National Cat Day National Oatmeal Day 1863 - The International Red Cross is formed with the meeting of 18 countries in Geneva. 1929 - The Crash of '29 or Black Tuesday - The New York Stock Exchange crashes and the Great Depression begins. 1942 - Bob Ross was born. He was an American painter, art instructor and television host. He hosted The Joy of Painting (below) on PBS from 1983-1994. He is the one that painted the "happy little trees". He died in 1995. 1971 - Winona Ryder was born. She is an American actress and producer. She has received 1 Golden Globe and been nominated for 2 Academy Awards, 1 BAFTA and 4 Screen Actor Guild Awards. After her appearance in Lucas in 1986 she became popular with her roles in Beetlejuice, Heathers, Mermaids, Edward Scissorhands, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Age of Innocence, Little Women, Reality Bites and Girl Interrupted.
