Al Green was born on April 13, 1946, the sixth of ten children. His father was a sharecropper. Green is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. While performing with his group, the Soul Mates, he was hired in 1969 by Memphis record producer, Willie Mitchell, to perform with Mitchell's band. After the performance Mitchell signed him to his Hi Records label. Green has been active from 1955 to the present time. Green was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He is #65 on the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and #14 on the list of 100 Greatest Singers.
