Safety First, or Law First?

With Halloween fast approaching, a lawmaker in Georgia decided that all registered sex offenders should have signs outside of their houses in order to warn children away from there on Halloween. i get that not all sex offenders are child molesters, but a lot of parents do not want their kids going to the houses of sex offenders, and I don't blame them. Even if the offender has paid his or her debt to society through prison time, I'm still not sure I'd trust them. Well, a few sex offenders protested these signs, and said it violated their first amendment rights. After a closer look at the law the courts decided to remove the signs. I don't know about you, but I don't really care if a bunch of (ex) sex offenders are offended. This holiday is about children getting close to people on their property (trick-or-treating, going door to door for candy, for those unfamiliar with our custom) and that means there should be caution. What do you think of this idea? Have sex offenders paid their debt to society if they are out of prison, or should there be signs on their houses warning those under the age of majority, away from their property?

Mostly I took my kids to the homes of people I knew.
