Molesters In The Family

October 31, 2019 5:17pm CST
This Topic is dear to my heart because this is the first time I have discussed this out loud with the masses. I revealed to my family 3 years ago that my father's younger brother molested me and before I migrated from my birth country, my mother's cousin did the same. Growing up I never said anything, at the time I thought I just never thought it was a big deal but when I got into my 20's the trauma started to affect my life in different ways. i had a lot of issues with trust, men and putting myself first. When I revealed this to my father he claimed to be very upset, but on the day before my wedding he called to ask me if my uncle was invited and when i said no he proceeded to coax me "come on" he said--sounding very strange. I wondered why until I heard my uncle's voice in the background, I was so hurt- of course that's my Dad, you weren't able to protect me then but now that was an opportunity. How many of us have to deal with the trauma of molestation on our own while our family are so afraid of change and the reality of it that they would rather hold on to these people?

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that, it must have affected your whole life. I can't believe that your father wanted the man who molested you to come to your wedding - at the very least he should never have spoken to him again.

Thank you for your sympathy, yes it has but I’m much stronger and it has definitely been my motivation . yes that’s what I would want but that was the outcome.

@WritingQueen Good luck with getting on with your life. I can only say that if someone did that to my daughter I would do all I could to bring them to justice.

Once the culprits are exposed it is duty of parents not to entertain such people again in their lives.

I agree but in a lot of families they pretend like it’s never happened
