What amazes me of 80 year old crossing guard Alec Childress is that even though he has been a crossing guard in Wilmette Illinois since 2005, he is one person that enjoys his work greeting students who see him at the school speaking to them in kind words and wisdom.
Earlier this month, when Alec come to work to celebrate his 80th birthday in which he thought it would just be another day at the office, he was surprised that over 100 students and teachers gave him gifts and praise as his reward for making their day better when he speaks to them in a cheerful manner.
Childress who became a crossing guard after he retired from working in the construction business, was surprised that so many well wishers came to shower him with so much love on his 80th birthday.
Nice deeds do get repaid in due time in our lifetimes. Stay positive in life.

@just4him I guess being friendly with people he cared for paid off in the long run.

That's spiritually uplifting. I have written a poem entitled "Deserving Good deeds" when I was studying in college 42 years ago.

That is nice to know that you wrote a poem about the good deeds done by regular people who take what a crossing guard does for granted.

Crossing guards are employees that many of us take for granted doing their work of keeping the students safe when coming and going from school to their homes.

It is since not many crossing guards who live quiet lives get a huge birthday party in their honor for just doing their work in a quiet manner.

That's wonderful that they celebrated his 80th birthday in such a big way. I remember with fondness our crossing card when I was in elementary school. His name was "Mack". Have a great Friday.
