Sometimes in these countdowns we have “Captain Obvious” show up because of the artists I use. Let’s face it, we all have favorites, and they’re our favorites for a reason. Anyway, other obvious things are with songs that fit the theme, well-known, and impossible to leave off. Case in point: today’s song. #7: Travelin’ Man - Ricky Nelson Oh, let’s see you do a countdown of songs with “travel” in the title and omit this one! Not much to add to this one. Classic song, one of the great Ricky Nelson’s best-known tunes, and a staple on “golden oldies” radio. Oh, there is this little tidbit from Picky Wedia: Jerry Fuller wrote this with hopes of Sam Cooke recording it. Cooke’s manager thought it wasn’t very good and didn’t even let Cooke hear it. (FYI, Fuller’s written other big hits, such as “Lady Willpower” by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap and Al Wilson’s hit “Show and Tell.”) Enjoy this classic tune.
