1895 - George B. Selden is granted the first U.S. patent for an automobile.
1940 - Franklin D. Roosevelt is the first and only President of the United States to be elected to a third term.
1941 - Art Garfunkel was born. He is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, poet and actor. He is best known for being part of the duo with Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkel. Both had a very successful solo career when the duo broke up in 1970, reuniting occasionally for a special gig. Some of their famous songs: Sound of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme and Bridge Over Troubled Water.
1947 - Peter Noone was born. He is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist and actor. He is Herman of Herman's Hermits, the successful 1960s pop group. They disbanded in 1971; and Noone had a solo career after that. Some of Herman's Hermits hits: I'm into Something Good (see below), Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter, I'm Henry the Eighth I Am, There's a Kind of Hush. They sold 60 million records and had 14 gold singles and 7 gold albums.
