Be One of Us #23 - "Age of Fire"

Be One of Us lives on, today in a highly glorious, controversial manner. We are in the middle of a 50-song countdown of songs with "of" in the title, and this is #23: "Age of Fire" by The Electric Hellfire Club. From Kenosha, Wisconsin, of all places, The Electric Hellfire Club formed in 1991 after vocalist Thomas Thorn left My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, where he played keyboards under the stage name Buck Ryder. The story I always heard was that his departure was due to concerns over that band's increasing forays into a commercially viable direction, but "undisclosed reasons" has also been offered as an explanation. Nonetheless, The Electric Hellfire Club offers up a wicked mix of industrial, glam, goth, and psychedelic songs about Satan, violence, drugs, and anything else that makes life worth living...err, offensive to "normal" people. That being said, this stuff is so over the top that it's difficult to take seriously, although there are some who do just that. Case in point being today's offering: "Age of Fire" (with it's necessary lead-in, "Invocation.") "Age of Fire" is about as over the top as it gets as a celebration of Satan. I am not a Devil worshipper, as many accuse me of as soon as they find out I am an atheist (logically, if I don't believe there's a God, I also don't believe there's a Satan, but when people allow themselves to become controlled by the emotional part of the brain, the frontal cortex shuts down and they are incapable of using logic, which means that you'll never convince them otherwise.) So, basically, "Age of Fire" is one hell of a slice of industrial dance rock. Thomas Thorn could be singing about dental hygiene for all I care; musically, this thing is badass. It's possible, however, that you might find it a tad bit offensive. (Info verified by Wikipedia)
