A Spanish animation studio made a cinematic cartoon about Ferdinand Magellan portraying him as a martyr hero who died for his country. Lapu Lapu, A filipino historical hero plays the villain on this movie.
One country's hero is another country's villain in both sites. I remember watching movies about Lapu Lapu that portrays Magellan as evil. Now Spain made a movie where Lapu Lapu is evil.
Lapu Lapu is just defending his domain from a colonists.

What a difference! And yah, I can see how it's a slap in the face to Filipinos. Oh - and that's a Filipina looking so admiringly towards Elcano? 'Uterus colonized'
! Dang. I really can see how they would be offended by this!

in Filipino movies, lapu lapu is always portrayed as a handsome man so you can see how offended filipinos are. Also they have an filipino female character who is head over heels to Elcano. Look at her, she is like willing to have her uterus colonized with the way she stares at him.

@much2say The Battle of Mactan, Happened in Cebu. Pre Colonial Cebuanos (Filipinos from Cebu) Don't dress like aztecs and polynesians.
They wear silk and gold.
This is a more accurate portrayal.

Lately, Christopher Columbus is not liked by many countries and October 12 is not a holiday any longer. Things change. But Magellan was more a sailor than he was a martyr. My idea.

To be fair Columbus is much more worst than Magellan, Columbus did genocides to many Native AMericans particularly the Taino Indians. Magellan, Just turned Filipinos into Christians but he got involved in some cruelties too but not genocides.

Well, they should just avoid watching the movie if they hated it. But to me it's nothing more than fiction, they make it non fiction and if they state that it's base on true events, then that's when you get mad.

Well this is their version of the truth. For them Magellan and Elcano are heroes of their country. But yeah their portrayal of Lapu Lapu should have been neutral. He can be an antagonist without making him evil.

Everyone sees the same thing different so it sounds good to me.

I know some US states already replaced the Columbus day with indigenous people day.
