Good morning, and happy Saturday. Not quite awake yet? Well, don't bother with the coffee, just crank this mofo up. You're welcome. This is 50 random songs with "of" in the title, and we are at #22: "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead.
In the words of New Model Army vocalist Justin Sullivan, Motorhead were the group that managed to successfully bridge the gap between the punks and the metal heads. Their 1980 hit single, "Ace of Spades," is widely considered the band's anthem, although vocalist/bassist Lemmy (Ian Kilmeister) thought otherwise, claiming the band did their best work later.
Although Lemmy claimed he preferred the "one arm bandits," he sprinkled "Ace of Spades" with card and dice gambling references ("You can't really sing about spinning fruit," he once said.) This 100mph-on-a-motorcycle tune originally spent 13 weeks on the UK Singles chart, peaking at #15. After Lemmy's 2015 death, the song reached #13, and as of January, 2016, has sold 208,830 digital copies.
And the band once performed the song on an episode of the classic British comedy, The Young Ones (and if you've never watched that, I just don't know what to tell you. Suffice it to say that you don't know what you're missing.)
"Ace of Spades" was recorded by Motorhead's classic lineup of Lemmy, guitarist "Fast Eddie" Clarke, and drummer Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor, all of whom have passed on. And are sorely missed. R.I.P.

Hey, that’s a nice mellow song. Think I’ll play it after my Christopher Cross album.
True classic of metal.
