World Freedom Day Go to an Art Museum Today Day 1620 - Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower sight land at Cape Cod, Massachusetts. 1861 - The first documented football game is played in Canada. 1934 - Carl Sagan was born. He was an American astronomer, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist and author. He published more than 600 scientific papers and articles and was author, co-author or editor to more than 20 books. Sagan assembled the first physical messages to be sent into space. He died in 1996. 2003 - Art Carney passed away. He was born in 1918 and was an American actor of the stage, film, television and radio and a comedian. He is best known for his role as Ed Norton on The Honeymooners (see below with Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden). He won an Academy Award for Best Actor in the movie Harry and Tonto, beating out Albert Finney, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino. He was active from 1939-1993. Photo Credit: Free Images
