"Fun with Dick & Jane" is a comedy that was released in 2005. It was written by Judd Apatow and Nicholas Stoller and is a remake of the 1977 movie of the same name. Budget for this film was $100 million against box office receipts of $202 million. CAST Jim Carrey - Dick Harper Tea Leoni - Jane Harper Alec Baldwin - Jack McCallister Richard Jenkins - Frank Bascombe Angie Harmon - Veronica Cleeman John Michael Higgins - Garth Richard Burgi - Joe Cleeman Carlos Jacott - Oz Peterson Stephnie Weir - Debbie Peterson It's January, 2000; and Dick Harper has been promoted to Vice President of Communications for the large media corporation, Globodyne. The next day he is on a television program with presidential candidate Ralph Nader who calls Globodyne "perverters of the American dream", claiming it helps the super-rich get even wealthier. As they are speaking, Globodyne's stock value is tanking, making all investments, including the employees' savings and pensions, worthless. Dick arrives home; and his wife, Jane, says that because Dick got a promotion, she quit her job as a travel agent to spend more time with their son, Billy. Dick then shares his terrible news. Dick tries to get another Vice President job; but doesn't have any luck. Everywhere he goes there are dozens of people applying for the same jobs. The Harpers face bankruptcy because their assets were all tied up in Globodyne's now worthless stock. They start to apply for low-paying jobs; but they don't work out well either. The utilities are shut off. Trucks start coming to pick up the television and more. If you want to find out what happens next, you'll have to watch the movie. As with many of Jim Carrey's movies, this movie turns into a little bit of slapstick with the fake beards and Carrey's normal over-the-top comedy; but I think it's still worth a watch. Is it an award-winner? Maybe not; but I think it's funny! So I'm giving it my recommendation. This movie is rated PG-13. Photo Credit: Wikimedia Commons
