"Glengarry Glen Ross" is a drama that was released in 1992. It was adapted by David Mamet from his 1984 Pulitzer-prize winning play of the same name. Jack Lemmon won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor; and Al Pacino was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. The movie received generally favorable reviews but did not do well at the box office with $10.7 million in box office receipts to a $12.5 million budget. The name of the movie stems from two properties sold: Glengarry Highlands and Glen Ross Farms.
CAST

The movie covers two days in the lives of four real estate salesmen. It's a rainy night in Queens, New York City, in a Chinese restaurant. A veteran real estate salesman, Shelley Levene, is attempting to contact a doctor for news about his chronically ill daughter. In the next phone booth Dave Moss is attempting to sell Rio Rancho Estates properties. They both go into the restroom and complain about the quality of leads they have been receiving from their company, Premiere Properties. A lead is the name and phone number of a prospective buyer. They have been receiving old leads that either don't have any money or don't have any interest in purchasing real estate. As they leave, Ricky Roma is successfully schmoozing a man at the bar in an attempt to sell him some real estate.
They return to the office; and a representative of the company who owns Premiere Properties, Mitch and Murray, is there. His name is Blake; and he's ill-tempered and arrogant. He verbally abuses them over their poor sales and reminds them of the sales contest. Top salesman wins a Cadillac; the second best wins a set of steak knives...Blake adds a new twist to the contest: Only the best salesmen will get the Glengarry leads, the premium leads, the leads that will produce sales; and the poorest salesmen will be fired.
If you want to find out what happens next, you will have to watch the movie. This is a very powerful and also a very sad movie. These men are desperate to keep their jobs and have nothing but useless leads to work with. One warning: There are a lot of expletives used in this film. The subject matter may not appeal to everyone; but this all-star cast makes it work. I think that you will enjoy this movie; and I give it my recommendation.
This movie is rated R.
