"The Graduate" is a romantic comedy-drama which was released in 1967. The movie was a critical and financial success with mostly positive reviews and North American box office receipts of $104.9 million against a budget of $3 million. Mike Nichols won an Academy Award for Best Director; and there were nominations in six other categories. In 2007 "The Graduate" was #17 on AFI's "100 Years...100 Movies" list. CAST Anne Bancroft - Mrs. Robinson Dustin Hoffman - Benjamin Braddock Katharine Ross - Elaine Robinson William Daniels - Mr. Braddock Murray Hamilton - Mr. Robinson Elizabeth Wilson - Mrs. Braddock Buck Henry - Room Clerk Benjamin Braddock is a 21-year-old graduate of an East coast college with a Bachelor's Degree. At the opening credits he is arriving at LAX International Airport and will be going home. That evening there is a party at his parent's home in Pasadena celebrating his graduation. His parents talk about his accomplishments; and neighborhood well-wishers want to know what his plans are for the future. Benjamin is uncomfortable and escapes from each person. One man tells Benjamin that the future is in "Plastics!" Mrs. Robinson, the neglected wife of Benjamin's father's law partner, asks him to drive her home. When they arrive at her home, Mrs. Robinson says that she doesn't want to go into an empty house alone. She pleads for him to come in and then to have a drink. She then undresses and offers herself to Benjamin. Benjamin leaves in a hurry; but a few days later he clumsily sets up a meeting at the Taft Hotel. He spends the summer floating around the pool by day and meeting Mrs. Robinson at the Hotel by night. They really have nothing to talk about. Benjamin's father is hounding Benjamin to pick a graduate school; but he shows no interest. Mr. Robinson and Benjamin's parents are coaxing him to take out Elaine; but Mrs. Robinson makes it very clear that she forbids it. If you want to know what happens, you'll have to watch the movie. Anne Bancroft, Dustin Hoffman and Katharine Ross are very convincing in their roles. You get some drama, some comedy and some romance all rolled into one movie; and this is rated 4 stars out of 4 on Spectrum. I recommend that you give this movie a try. This movie is rated PG.
