The level of excellence that is Lea.

In my book, only Lea Salonga qualifies as world class artist. What defines World Class? That which is adjudged best in comparison with all the bests in the world. Lea Salonga is exactly and singly that artist. She was a 17 year old about to enter college, when British theater producer Cameron Mckintosh came to Manila, on a quest for a girl to play Kim in his Miss Saigon opera. He and his crew was about to abandon the project because no talent can essay the character Kim, and they've searched LA, Hawaii, etcetera, none, till they came to Manila. All of a sudden, a host of Filipino artists have filled the list of minor characters. But most important, they discovered Lea for the title role of Miss Saigon. Lea, equipped with self discipline, seriousness of purpose, dedication, and professionalism, suddenly showed the world what honor and excellence means. She performed flawlessly, never once faltering in her rigid live performances. Her voice - angelic but powerful - resonated. In time, the award giving bodies bestowed her The Best. It had been four decades since Lea wowed world stage, sang the best rendition of Eponine in Les Miserables, became Disney's princesses singing voice, and incomparable concert diva. It feels mushy watching the beginning of this seventeen year old Lea. She is, from the very start, world class.

Lea's resolve to deliver high quality performances on world stage continues to this day. She has become exemplary and the Filipinos are beholden to her. I hold her caliber up there with another outstanding woman - Audrey Hepburn.

@LindaOHio Yes. She defined World Class. I wonder if any other American comes close to the class act that was Audrey Hepburn. Is there any one I must have missed?

I love Lea. She is the only artist I rushed to for a farewell concert. She was leaving for London for the Miss Saigon job. Glad you like her, too.
