On February 1 grumpy and self-centered TV meteorologist Phil Connors, cameraman Larry and news producer Rita Hanson are headed for Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, for the annual Groundhog Day celebration. They will be covering it for the fictional station, WPBH-TV9 in Pittsburgh. On February 2 Phil begrudgingly gives the Groundhog report; and then they pack up to leave and head back to Pittsburgh.
Phil had forecast that a blizzard would miss Punxsutawney; but he was wrong. They hit blizzard conditions, the road is closed; and they have to head back to Punxsutawney.
The next morning at 6 AM Phil's clock radio goes off and the song "I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher comes on. Phil looks outside; and there is no snow. Confused, he gets dressed and leaves his room. To his dismay, it is still February 2; and he must deliver his Groundhog Day report again. Everyone does the exact same things and are not aware that it is February 2 again; yet Phil can remember what happened the day before. This happens over and over again; and Phil begins to experiment with this phenomenon.
Do you wonder what happens next? You will have to watch the movie to find out. This is a great movie with a great concept. It's not the same thing day after day for Phil...Phil is changing, whether he realizes it or not. There is a lot of comedy and a lot of heart in this movie. I give this movie my recommendation.
This movie is rated PG.
