1963 - The BBC broadcasts the first episode of the first story of the first series of Doctor Who, the world's longest running science fiction drama.
1992 - The first smartphone, the IBM Simon, is introduced at COMDEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2012 - Larry Hagman passes away. He was born in 1931. He was an American television and movie actor, director and producer. He is best known for his role as J. R. Ewing in the 1970s primetime soap opera Dallas and as Major Anthony "Tony" Nelson in the 1960s sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. Hagman is the son of actress Mary Martin.
