It's kinda surprising, why the Sunday Gospel today narrates the scene of the Crucifixion, two thieves arguing and our Lord between them, while hanging on the crosses!, because today must be a joyous moment, our Lord is Christ the King.
Many reasons come to mind, arguably, all off. Ergo, I will not offer wisdom on the matter, for I have none.
Suffice it to say that today is a glorious day, our Lord is finally King.

Yup. The Solemnity of our Lord is Sunday before Advent.

@mlgen1037 Hmmm, check out the confessional schedule. Missing Mass means we did not keep the third commandment to heart. We must make a confession for that,

The History of Salvation was pretty long. In fact, the Old Testament even had great and notorious kings.
The Kingship of our Lord Jesus Christ was the fulfillment of the Old Testament's messianic prophecies. Thus, after the crucifixion and the resurrection comes the Kingship of our Christ.

@eileenleyva This is what the priest explained yesterday's sermon. He linked the paradoxical dogma about being King one must have a mission, followers should acclaimed Him to be Truly a king. But in Christ's time her was acclaimed at his worst time and by a thief beside him. It was different from the usual way we humans acclaim a King where we do it at the time of his crowning but Christ showed a different point of view where He was acclaimed to be when it was in his last hours of his Life here on Earth. I hope I got it right haha.

@rsa101 Sounds logical enough. I will pursue that line of thought.
Give me some time to study and understand.

Yup, a little strange, huh.
Although come to think of it, the crucifixion and the Resurrection are messianic prophecies. Perhaps it was really right to recall the crucifixion on the Feast of Christ the King, to tell again about the crucified Messiah's Kingdom.

As long as it gives hope to everyone. Be like the other thief who sought to be with Jesus in paradise, while the other thief representing a hopeless creature thriving in a world of sarcasm.

Marian Studies has it that when the Holy Family was on a flight thru Egypt, they encountered a bond of thieves. The king of thieves saw the Baby Jesus in need of a bath. He told his wife to give the Mary a basin of water where She can clean Baby Jesus, and instructed his wife that after Jesus' bath, dip their own son, afflicted with leprosy, on the same water. The child was healed, and he grew up to be that thief on the cross who asked Jesus to bring him to His Kingdom.
