As I mentioned yesterday, three of the final four in this countdown of favorite songs with “road” in the title are from Hall of Fame acts. Today’s artist is not the exception to that rule. Here’s today’s “road” song.
#3: Kings Road - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
In the 70s there seemed to be a recurring problem: acts couldn’t follow their “big classic album” with a quality follow-up. Tom Petty broke that “curse” — shattered it, actually — when Hard Promises was released as the follow-up to his breakthrough Damn the Torpedoes. (Of course, that was 1979/1981, so maybe the “curse” was wearing off by then.)
Man, what a great album. And hey, there’s Petty on the cover...in a record store!!!
This is one that gets played a lot when it comes up on the iPod.
Kings Road
Written by Tom Petty
Recorded by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
From Hard Promises, 1981
I thought about it, said I don’t know:

I've heard of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers; but I'm not familiar with their music. Thank you for the link.
