National Cake Day Good Grief Day 1778 - In the Hawaiian Islands, Captain James Cook becomes the first European to visit Maui. 1863 - United States President Abraham Lincoln proclaims November 26 as a national Thanksgiving Day to be celebrated annually on the final Thursday of November. 1939 - Tina Turner was born. She was an American-Swiss singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. Originally from the United States, Turner became a Swiss citizen in 2013. She was popular as a duo with her husband Ike Turner. When they divorced, she reinvented herself as a solo artist. She has sold over 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. What's Love Got to Do With It (see below) and Proud Mary are two of her hit songs. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 with her husband, Ike.
