Day 114
Promise 159, 160, 161, 162, 163
Psalm 3:1 (A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.) LORD, how are they increased who trouble me! Many are they who rise up against me.
2 Many there be which say of my soul, ‘There is no help for him in God.’ Selah.
3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
5 I laid me down and slept; I awoke; for the LORD sustained me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, who have set themselves against me round about.
7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheekbone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8 Salvation belongs unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
Have you felt hemmed in on all sides with no way out of the problem you faced?
Many of David’s psalms are prayers for God to get him out of the circumstance facing him. He fled from Saul who wanted to kill him. Here David prayed for God to deliver him from his son, Absalom who wanted to kill him.
David didn’t beg God to deliver him. He believed God would deliver him because He put his trust in God.
In this short prayer is five promises David acknowledged.
1. The Lord is his shield and buckler, the lifter of his head.
2. God heard him when he prayed.
3. The Lord sustained him while he slept.
4. God delivered him from his enemies in times past.
5. God blesses His people.
As Christians, do you use David’s strategies in how God helps His people? Is God your shield and armor against your enemy Satan? Do you expect God to hear you when you pray? Do you sleep knowing God will protect you? Have you seen God’s victories over Satan’s efforts against you? Has God blessed you?
Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Isaiah 65:24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. (KJV)
Matthew 8:23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us: we perish.’
26 And he said unto them, ‘Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?’ Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27 But the men marveled, saying, ‘What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!’
In every circumstance in David’s life, he encouraged himself in the Lord and God delivered him from his enemies. God will do the same for you when you put your faith in action and trust God to deliver you from Satan’s attack on your life.
Let’s pray: Father, help me stand in my armor ready when Satan comes against me. Let Your Word be on my lips and in my heart, knowing You will protect me from every attack. Let me sleep in peace knowing You will keep me safe. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
