Jerry Maguire is a 35-year-old sports agent who works for Sports Management International (SMI). One evening he questions his purpose, his place in the world and prepares a mission statement putting forth what he thinks is wrong with the sports management industry. Along with dishonesty in the business, he feels that agents should spend more time with less clients thus increasing the quality of service. He receives a standing ovation from the office the next day when presenting his views; but the office sends his protege Bob Sugar to fire him.
Now it's a race to see who can convince the most clients not to join with the other. Jerry talks to Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Rod Tidwell. Rod is unhappy with his contract. Rod tests Jerry's commitment with a very long telephone conversation. In the meantime Bob Sugar has convinced the rest of Jerry's clients to stay with SMI.
Jerry announces that he's going to start his own agency and asks if anyone is willing to join him. The only person who responds is 26-year-old single mother Dorothy Boyd. For some reason Jerry takes the company goldfish with him. He is left with one client, one volunteer and one fish.
I agree with the critics that the acting and the writing were excellent in this movie. "Show me the money" is the phrase that sticks with you from this film. Find out what happens when Jerry strikes out on his own with only one supporter, Dorothy Boyd. I applaud this movie and give you my definite recommendation.
This movie is rated R.
