Thanksgiving Memories

It is just as well that I didn’t have anyone to share Thanksgiving with because I had gotten used to not celebrating the holiday in Latvia. I was considering making it a holiday just for us at home but turkeys were expensive. So I have just continued to work online and see how fast it all passed by? When my mom and I live in New York City we lived in Bay Ridge in the borough of Brooklyn. Mom got lucky to find an apartment in this one house which quickly filled up with retired Latvians. They were a great group of people who had lived through WW II like my parents and arriving in the New World were happy to really embrace life and enjoy it. We rotated on Thanksgivings and some my mom and I hosted and some other Latvians. It was surprising to me as a young adult to discover that these retired people could almost party better than me. They enjoyed gathering together and partying and sometimes even dancing. They were really memorable times. It was a shame my dad was no longer with us he was a really sociable person and would have enjoyed all of this greatly. In the photo you can see the usual gathering of Latvians I suppose you can guess which one is me and on the left-hand side the pretty woman in the polka dot dress was my mom. It makes me sad to think they are all gone now perhaps still having parties up above.
