1977 - Pinwheel is launched, which is now Nickelodeon.
1945 - Bette Midler was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is an American singer, songwriter, actress and producer. She started her professional career in several Off-Off-Broadway plays. In the late 1960s she appeared in Fiddler on the Roof and Salvation on Broadway. In 1970 she began singing at the Continental Baths and built up a core following. Since 1970 she has released 14 albums as a solo artist.
Some of her song hits: The Rose, Wind Beneath My Wings, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Do You Want to Dance. Her motion picture debut was in 1979 with The Rose for which she received a Golden Globe for Best Actress and a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Some of her other movies: Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Ruthless People, Outrageous Fortune, Big Business, Beaches, The First Wives Club and Parental Guidance. She has won a total of 3 Grammys, 4 Golden Globes, 3 Emmys and 1 Tony Award.
