I really feel like having a library card is going to get me into more trouble...

To be honest, I got the library card (third edition! ) because I wanted to save money but still be able to read some good books. However, the more I think about it, the more likely it will just be a way to screen the books before I buy them. I am reading The Solitary House by Lynn Shepherd at the moment and I've already decided I am going to buy this book, and probably all of her other books. The good thing? Maybe I'll be able to find it from my favorite media thrift store. Oh well, books make me happy! Who needs money when you have books? Have you ever done anything with the intention of saving money, but ended up spending more instead?

I used to be really bad about doing this. Especially when I would be buying lotions, body washes and perfumes!

@amitkokiladitya I do not buy a lot of clothes for myself. I actually should buy myself a few more outfits.

@Tina30219 Well you know that I will be around here most days to talk with. It honestly depends on how much I earn for the month combined, but the majority I'd like to use towards more books, the rest will probably go towards keeping ahead of bills.

That's how I feel. The more the books the merrier. A friend posted a meme on my facebook that said something along the lines of "Hey honey, I bought 3,587 books" or something like that. That would totally be me if I had more money! As is, I am already planning on a sort of book haul for January. Going to try to be on mylot and my other sites as much as possible so that I can do that.

I have hundreds on my shelf that require the same. However, a good chunk are not in the genre that I want to read at the moment.

@ScribbledAdNauseum oh that’s annoying I get that. I jump around genres a lot. I get bored with the same genre all the time.

@shaggin Ah, I feel like I used to be that way when I was younger, but I'm getting older and more set in my ways I guess.

Saving money is mostly a wasted idea with me. But I've done well with library books. I haven't bought too many books since I've been using the library, and I've been borrowing mostly ebooks and audio books now, so I can be in the dark and still "read". Works for me. But there will always be a few books that I will HAVE to have!

I have a love / hate opinion of audiobooks. I like them, but I also would rather read because my idea of the characters "voice" is usually different than that of the narrator. I have already given myself permission to splurge on some books after Christmas. I may be getting a gift card to my favorite thrift book store, so I will use that and then also some of my own money. Being surrounded by books makes me happy.

@CRK109 I have not yet read The Goldfinch but I think I ahve it on my shelf somewhere, or had intended to buy it at one time. That's another thing I need to do, organize all my books by genre. Have you heard of the Chirp app? I am not sure, but I think you can use it online as well as on a phone. It is cheap audiobooks, cheaper than audible and there is no subscription fee.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I know that audio books are not for everyone but as I get older, I just want someone to read me a story. Some books work well that way and others don't. When I heard "The Goldfinch", I was hooked. That narrator did every voice and accent to perfection and some had me laughing out loud. I wish all narrators were as good!

I just decided that I am going to do a big haul on books. It's been awhile since I've spent a lot of money on myself, and I usually try to do that once a year. Hoping that I'll get some gift cards to my favorite thrift store though, to help me out on that.

@thislittlepennyearns Ah that's cool. You are doing Qmee? Sometimes they'll have surveys that are only about three minutes long. Shybear here (I think that's her username) does some apps that she might be able to recommend to you.

@ScribbledAdNauseum we just added Hotspot to the phone bill so I can do the tablet while we're traveling back and forth from jobs. I need to find some other things to earn PayPal or gift cards

Nope. But if I come across with a good books from a library I wanted to have a copy it for my personal use. So I look for it in the bookstore or order it directly from the publisher.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Nowadays books are in ebook format. They can be accessed in some ebook links with a minimal fee.

@Nakitakona Yes, or even free ebooks. However, I still prefer to keep some shelves full of them.

oh boy I should get a library card, though I might end up doing the same thing you do I've done this with a few art supplies. I buy one or two colors of the marker or pen...but then I love the way they write/color and I buy all the colors...oops

I have done the same thing with gel pens, markers etc but I am no artist. It was just when I was coloring in coloring books. Of course, i did buy a lot of yarn only to realize I wasn't going to become an accomplished needleworker. In fact, I guess you could say I have a history of going slightly overboard! The only diffrence is I won't regret it later with books.
