It is now in the news regarding that Lowest mark in understanding what you are reading [b] It says that according to the result of PISA 2018 there are students who are finding hard to read in different aspects like how to get an idea, information or even following instructions when they read. Then ironically a lot of parents are posting the grades of their children to brag it to the world. Here are my opinion how come it happen and no wonder about it 1. Curriculum itself is really really sick here, they tend to be in hurry. While there are students who haven't mastered yet the lesson they will move right away to the next topic without understanding the lesson. 2. Grades are important especially to parents rather than learning then they will brag the grades of their children in social medias. 3. The classes here makes whole day like 8 hours or you spent your half your day in school like 9 hours daily then at home you will be having plenty of assignments. You have no rest mentally. 4. Self Esteem issues parents itself will label their children as Stupid/Dumb and most of them are so impatient in teaching their child in studies. Then when the child grows up they will make them as investment or retirement fund, they will obliged their children to pay back for what they did. It is all about emotional black mail 5. They will label you as a person for being weak especially if you are not good in mathematics. 6. People are too EMOTIONAL rather than thinking the context 7. English here in the Philippines are measurement of intelligence, like if there is wrong grammar they will laugh on it or worst case they will put it into viral on social media to make fun of that person when it is already part of cyber bullying. A lot of Filipinos are joining the bandwagon of shame. 8. Everything focuses on Gadgets, Drama Series, Koreanovela, Lovelife, and Raffy Tulfo segments where they invest so much emotions. 9. Trying hard to be competitive where in fact they cannot make it. 10. There are a lot of abusive parents especially MEN or fathers. Many of them are irresponsible like they don't really prioritize their children but having fun every night by drinking or being alcoholic. Instead of focusing to their family especially children they will spend time to their friends. They treat their children as disturbance where in fact they are not hardworking men
Pinakamababa sa 79 bansa ang nakuhang marka ng mga Filipinong mag-aaral sa reading comprehension o pag-intindi sa binabasa, base sa resulta ng isang assessment na isinagawa ng Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

I teach reading in the early grades and children are really poor in comprehension. School should focus on helping children widen their vocabulary

This is actually true and it’s sad. That’s why I make sure that my students understand what we’re studying. I don’t like that we’re by the book. I make them read the lesson and ask them about what they read. That way, I can see if they truly comprehend what they’re studying.
