I usually cook a big dinner for Hubby and the kids.My middle daughter and hubby do the baking. My in laws use to come but the last couple of years we just take them a plate of food as it is getting harder for them to get out and come over. Father in law is 89 this year Mother in law not far behind him in age. My father in law still works the same job he has had since I met my hubby so John has worked the same job that I know of for over32 years. He runs an alfalfa mill. But it is extremely hard for Edna to get out and about. I am thinking about turning it all over to my girls this year. What are your traditions? Ever thought about changing the way you do things?

Your FIL is still working? We go to my aunt's house. The last few years my friends and I had a cookie day on Christmas Eve, but this year we are doing it on the 15th instead.

Yes he is still working. He grows a big garden every year as well and working at the mill . Sometimes he works as late 11 or 12 at night.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My grandpa was the same way. They made him give up his Salvage yard and all his animals. He didn't live long after that. They said well you could die out there. I told my uncle at least he would be doing what he loves.

@jeanena It is sad, isn't it? Both of those things were done out of love and concern, but to the detriment of the health of our loved ones.

The first Christmas we have with our family is great and wonderful. We're complete. My 6 children, my wife and I celebrate it in traditional way by having a Noche Buena, Christmas Eve dinner. Lately we're getting less since some of our children have their own and traveling seems impractical due to distant. They have to celebrate their own and we just greet each through phone.

I like that we can video call now when we can't get together for the Holidays

@jeanena yes that's what modern tech could provide us to be together with our family members in far away places.

We do have traditions of our own. Usually on the 24th we do something with my mom and her side of the family. A French Canadian tradition. Then on the 25th, in the morning we spend time just my husband and I with our kids. Then in the afternoon, we spend time with my husband's parents, his sister and her girls. This year, I don't think we'll make it to my mom's side on the 24th. So it'll be a little different.
