No Swimming at the Swimming Pool

LOL! That’s only for me as the rest have enjoyed their moments in the waters. Yesterday, my friend insisted that I should come to the birthday of her younger daughter which was held at one of the pool and resorts here. I did attend later at the afternoon because I have some things to get done first. The waters are tempting and I really want to have good moments there but I can’t. It’s pointless to only soak my body in the water as I was advised by my ENT to do not engage any swimming activity up to this time because my perforated eardrum was not totally healed yet. I was told then that the entire ear drum was torn and I should undergo surgical repair but I refused because I’m hopeful that the hole will heal over time by its own. During my latest check up, the doctor says that the hole this time is about 20%. Photo Credit: pixabay.com

Ouch, a perforated eardrum needs to be repaired. But I'm glad to hear that it can do self-healing, as you said.

@ZedSmart what was the cause of the perforation? Did you go deep sea diving?

Usually it will heal according to the doctor especially if the perforation is just small. In my case, it's the whole ear drum so he suggested to have a surgical procedure but I was afraid so even if it takes longer than the usual I might wait.

@Alexandoy I was surprised because it's the mucus that suppose to pass thru the nose lead its way there causing it to rupture.

I can totally empathise with ear problems. Lucky for me no ruptured ear drums. But I am a frequent ENT client because I have swimmers ear. Hope you heal well.

@ZedSmart Usually otic drops and stronger pain relief as well as oral antibiotics if it’s a bad one. Will your ear drum heal ?

Swimmer ear is also irritating but at least what you need is just an otic drops or you have another form of medication? It's good that you did not damage your eardrum.

@flapiz I'm not sure if this heals the natural way but over time, the hole is decreasing.

it's much better not to risk it. do you cover it when you take a bath? do you put medication in it?

I cover it with cotton ball dab with baby oil. For now, no more medication but I was advised to have a check when something unusual. I'm now used with that ringing sound because it's now minimal but there were times that it would become louder a bit and I find it uncomfortable.

I understand! I punctured my eardrum years ago, but it did heal up on its own. Heal up quickly! That pool looks so inviting.

Maybe in my case, it would take much time since it's the whole eardrum but it's slowly healing.

If this not heal naturally, I think I would submit myself for the surgical procedure but I don't want that to happen.

Thank you. It's getting better but it doesn't totally closed so I avoid water getting in so that it will not infected.

Yes give it some more time, some doctors at times are just too eager to make an invasive procedure.

That's why I decided to do not undergo the procedure yet.

@ZedSmart That's impossible to do if you swim, so it's best to stay out of the pool until your doctor gives the okay. I'm glad it's healing.

It's slowly healing Ms. Val but I'm OK now except that I should be careful not to catch fluid inside my ear.

Thanks. This maybe takes time but I'm willing to wait because I don't like a surgical procedure.
