We're getting downright funky today on Jesus is the Reason for the Season, a random 17-song countdown with "Jesus" in the title. We are at #12: "Black Jesus" by 9 Lazy 9.
9 Lazy 9 is an Italian acid jazz duo consisting of Keir Fraserello and Giacamo Braddellini (who also performs under his real name, James Braddell, in the most awesome Funky Porcini.) And while the duo has since moved on to a more electronic chill sound, they created some damn fine acid jazz early on.
"Black Jesus" was released as a single from their 1994 album, Electric Lazyland (no idea how it charted, although I'm guessing that if it had reached #1 it would have been mentioned.)
I had been trying to find Electric Lazyland for a few months when I stumbled upon it one drunken Saturday morning at Best Buy, of all places. My enthusiasm factor shot into the stratosphere. "Ooh, 9 Lazy 9! I've been looking for this for months!" After I grabbed it, some yuppie standing near me picked up a copy, looked at it, gave it a condescending, world-class smirk, and put it back.
That's when I knew that I'm just cooler than everybody else. Yuppies.

I am still amazed you do this all on your phone. People always ask why you not on more often so next time you wanna know where this dude is. Right here, he just does not have the energy to type all of this on his phone. I would buy you a laptop but me's to poor. Love your take always buddy. One of the true for sure.

@crossbones27 - Once I manage to get all of the stuff I need for my place, I might try to rescue a dog.

It's really not that hard doing it on the phone, not as easy as a laptop, but not bad. I actually haven't been on a lot recently because I lost enthusiasm for it for awhile, and was basically busy getting my life back in order.

Best Buy??? They had something that wasn’t top ten pop????
Can you imagine that conversation.....
“Boss, I made a mistake while ordering Eazy-E and got 9 Lazy 9 instead.”
“Well, just put it out. You never know when some drunk guy might come in and make the same mistake.”
Quite a funky tune. Loved one of the comments, “hip hop with ingredients.”

We used to have a theory that Best Buy was accidentally getting good stuff once in awhile, and having absolutely no idea what it was, just slapping a low price on it and just putting it out there on the floor.

I read about them in an acid jazz magazine, but still took awhile to find it.
