Dennis The Menace, and his twin Dennis The Menace

If you ask someone in the US who Dennis the Menace is they would describe a sweet blonde boy who had a penchant for getting into mischief. They might also describe his dog Ruff, A white little airedale dog.
If you ask someone in the UK they'd describe Dennis as a true menace, a black haired little boy who intentionally causes mischief. They'd describe his dog Gnasher, as a look alike to it's master. Black and curly fur.
Hank Ketcham created his character in March of 1951. As did Beano comic of the UK (Scotland, I believe). Neither creator knew of the other's creation. This is simply a case of coincidence.
I actually found out about this from a youtube video from Lost In the Pond but found the article about it and will share that here.
