"Lost in America" was released in 1985. It's a satirical road comedy co-written by Albert Brooks and Monica Johnson and directed by Albert Brooks. CAST Albert Brooks - David Howard Julie Hagerty - Linda Howard Maggie Roswell - Patty Michael Greene - Paul Dunn Garry Marshall - Casino Manager Donald Gibb - Ex-Convict Charles Boswell - Highway Patrolman David and Linda Howard are yuppies who live in Los Angeles and are fed up with their lifestyle. David works in an advertising agency; and Linda works for a department store. David does not get the promotion he was counting on and instead is going to be transferred to the agency's New York office. In anger, David insults his boss and gets fired. David rushes to the department store to talk to Linda. David encourages his wife to quit her job and embark on a new adventure with him. The Howards liquidate their assets, drop out of society "like Easy Rider" and set off to travel the country in a Winnebago. They leave Los Angeles with their "nest egg" of $100,000. They approach Las Vegas; and David tells Linda that he wants to remarry her and wants to do it right away and then get back on the road. Linda wants to get a suite, "celebrate their heads off", get room service and bathe together. David finally agrees. They check into the Desert Inn and get a suite that doesn't fit all of their fantasies. There are two heart-shaped beds and a tiny heart-shaped shower; but Linda is happy. David figures they will get up early and be the first married couple of the new day. During the night David wakes up and finds that Linda is gone. He goes down to the casino in his robe and pajamas and finds Linda at the roulette table betting on "22". If you want to find out what happens next, you will have to watch the movie. There were so many good movies released in the 1980s; and this is one of them. Whenever I see the name Albert Brooks associated with a movie, it's almost assured that I will like it. Brooks does a lot of improvisation with the dialogue and has a very satirical wit. If you're looking for something funny and light, I highly recommend that you give this movie a try. This movie is rated R. Photo Credit: Pixabay
