Loretta Castorini is a 37-year-old widowed Italian-American woman who lives in Brooklyn Heights, New York, and works as an accountant. She lives with her father, Cosmo, a successful plumber, mother, Rose, and paternal grandfather.
Cosmo dislikes Johnny and doesn't want to pay for the wedding; and Rose is happy that Loretta likes but does not love Johhny. She feels that loving someone can only drive you crazy.
Loretta goes to Ronny's bakery to see him when he refuses to talk to her on the phone. Ronny explains why there is bad blood between him and Johnny. Johnny was talking to Ronny, Ronny became distracted and caught his hand in the bread slicer. Because of his maimed hand, his fiancee left him. Loretta says that is not Johnny's fault. Ronny says, "I lost my hand! I lost my bride!" Loretta suggests that they discuss it in his upstairs apartment.
If you want to see how this movie turns out, you will have to watch it. Each actor/actress was hand-picked for his/her character; and it shows. The script is wonderful, the actors are wonderful and this movie is wonderful...funny and warm. I'm an Italian-American too; and I see my relatives in many of the characters in this movie. I highly recommend it.
This movie is rated PG.
