I have a dry scalp, always have had all my life. I never got rid of the cradle cap from when I was a baby. However as a young adult I wore my hair mostly long and I was fine. However I'd say for the past 10 years or so if my hair doesn't stay colored and grows past shoulder length. The scalp stays dry, my hair get's oily but the ends are all dry and frizzy! Does that happen to anyone else? Do you know why this happens? Do you know what I can do about it?

If you still have cradle cap it sounds like you need a special Shampoo or medication to get rid of it.

I did have prescription shampoos several times and OTC medicated ones too. The neurologist I had in 1985 said I just need to keep picking at it and removing it.

@dfollin I didn't use any special shampoos for my kids they got it once or twice and I just picked it off. It was so gross.

@dfollin Medications have changed quite a bit over the past few years. Why don't you try a dermatologist again?

I think your scalp has a problem. I used to have thinning hair so I have been applying oil on my scalp, directly to the scalp and not on the hair. That solved the problem.

I have used oil on my scalp many times and even as a child I used prescription shampoo, nothing worked. But I am more concerned about what I can do about my hair getting oily and falling out more.

@dfollin perhaps you need to consult a dermatologist for your scalp.

Thanks! Yes years ago and the medicated shampoo didn't work. But I need to worry more now about my hair getting oily and falling out.

@just4him Maybe I need to see another dermatologist, but it's going to have to wait till I have enough money, My hair only starts to get oily when it grows past my shoulders.

@dfollin I've had oily hair all my life and never needed to worry about it falling out. Maybe another talk with a dermatologist would help.
