"Multiplicity" is a science fiction comedy that was released in 1996. The screenplay was written by Chris Miller, Mary Hale, Harold Ramis, Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, based on a short story by Chris Miller. The movie was produced and directed by Harold Ramis. The movie was not a critical and commercial success. Reviews were mixed; and returns at the box office were $21 million against a budget of $45 million. CAST Michael Keaton - Doug Kinney, Two (Lance), Three (Rico), Four (Lenny) Andie MacDowell - Laura Kinney Zack Duhame - Zack Kinney Katie Schlossberg - Jennifer Kinney Harris Yulin - Dr. Leeds Richard Masur - Del King Eugene Levy - Vic Ann Cusack - Noreen A Los Angeles construction executive, Doug Kinney, never has enough time for his family. He is working at a building site for a new wing of a scientific facility, the Gemini Institute. At the facility is a doctor who works in the cloning field and has had much success. Dr. Leeds understands Doug's problem and wants to help. He explains the whole process to Doug who exclaims, "You Xerox people!" Doug finally agrees; and Dr. Leeds clones Doug so that the clone can work at the construction site; and original Doug can spend more time with his family. Clone Two (Lance) is an exaggeration of Doug's masculine side. He's a workaholic but also has domestic qualities. Two retains all his knowledge and memories. Doug takes Two to the apartment over the garage and tells him that's where he'll be staying. Laura never goes there; and it must be kept a secret from her. I had high expectations for this movie since it has Michael Keaton in it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie and I would recommend it; but I didn't love it. The movie was fine except for a lot of sexual references; and I think that the movie as a whole could have been taken to the next comedic level. One of the clones could have threatened to tell someone about their arrangement. Laura could have found out instead of just being suspicious; and Keaton is capable of more over-the-top comedy. Nevertheless, I am recommending "Multiplicity". This movie is rated PG-13. Photo Credit: Wikimedia Commons
