Braintree Massachusetts Police Officer Scott Dias was one of 18 persons who were awarded the Carnegie Medal which is the highest honor a civilian in the U S and Canada for an act of heroism.
Dias was involved in a risky rescue mission two years ago when a house fire where he arrived to the burning home before the firefighters arrived to put out the fire.
Dias was able to save a 69 year old man who was in a wheelchair in the front of his burning home.
Even though Dias was able to save the elderly man from the burning building, he had to risk his life to save the man's wife and her son who were inside the burning building.
Dias was able to rescue the wife of the elderly man even though Dias must have a Guardian Angel to guide him to rescue the woman despite Dias struggling to see through the thick smoke inside the home to safety outside.
Even though the wife of the elderly man survived the fire, their son Colin Gray Junior, 45, passed away in the fire that consumed their home in November 2017.
Congratulations to Officer Dias for being rewarded the Carnegie Medal for risking his life in saving an elderly couple in a house fire two years ago even though their son perished in the fire since the officer could do only so much.

Wow! Great job! This reminds me of something that happened in the past. My husband and I with our young daughter looked at a basement for rent and use of the kitchen upstairs ( this was before my arthritis kicked in). The people (a woman and her elderly husband in a wheelchair paralized from the waist down) were going to talk about renting to us and call us that night or next day. We didn't hear from them. So we tried to call them, thought maybe we wrote the phone number down wrong or something.
We got no answer. Six months later, we started going to a new church and this lady kept looking at us and after service she came over to us. It was the lady at the house. The house caught on fire.
Her husband was in his bed and there was not enough time for her to get him out of the bed and into his wheelchair, he insisted that she get herself out and their mentally handicapped 19 year old son out. The firemen did not get there in time to save him.

When you risk your own life to rescue that of a stranger, you deserve to be called a hero.

That is a very good way to define what a hero really is.

Would I do what he did? You never know until it happens and I hope I would be of some help but....

You have a very good point there. Courage is acting on your desire to save a life even if you scared inside.
