Considering that when I started Jesus is the Reason for the Season, 17 songs with "Jesus" in the title, I should have been finished right around Christmas day. Well, Christmas day is here, and heavy procrastination finds us only at #9: "Jesus Built My Hotrod" by Ministry. Back in 1991, when the inaugural Lollapalooza tour visited Chicago, Butthole Surfers vocalist Gibby Haynes, after their set, paid a visit to Chicago Trax! recording studios, home of the legendary industrial metal band, Ministry. There, Ministry leader Al Jourgensen asked Gibby to do some vocals for an in-progress guitar and drum demo. Haynes, reportedly, was hammered, and did takes for as long as he could before falling asleep. Uncle Al went into the editing room, took the Haynes vocals that were useable, mixed in the necessary industrial soundbites and sound effects, and the result was the industrial metal classic, "Jesus Built My Hotrod," which reached #19 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, selling, as of July, 1992, approximately 128,000 copies. On Facebook, whenever someone posts something nice about Jesus helping somebody in some way, I can't help it. I have to leave a comment saying "And then Jesus built the man a hotrod." Cracks me up every time! (Info verified by Wikipedia)
