Fat shaming

My aunt is a fat shamer. Christmas time was such a fun time with her around. I remember once on the phone telling her that I had put on weight from 72 to 75kg. I remember her calling me fat and overweight and unhealthy. The thing is I was putting on that weight as I was persuing a training regime. I am a marathon swimmer and consider anything under a kilometer to be a sprint. I need a large diet (I eat more than my father who is in a labor-intensive job). She used to call her own daughter's fat and overweight and terrible names. They were also pursuing a fitness regime and were actually gaining muscle not fat. Both of these girls developed anorexia because they believed that at the peak of their fitness that they were fat and disgusting and ugly.

May be your aunt was concerned about the fat and not with the muscle mass you people were putting on with the diet and exercise you people were undergoing then!

@AKRao24 She was calling us fat because of the number on the bathroom scales... Those scales do not distinguish between muscle or fat and clearly neither does she. She is also doing a training and diet regime. Which has caused her to put on weight due to gaining muscle as well. She was more interested that the number should be going down because that would mean we were doing it 'correctly'. Instead of up. Plus people don't realize that you can be 'overweight' or 'fat' but also be healthy.

@Fa_Maverick , Yes, I can understand her concern! Yes, most of the time people they don't realize that overweight or obese people can be healthy and lead normal lives!

@AKRao24 I can't understand her concern with the number on the scales going up seeing as though she was going through the exact same thing...

do you mean fat by society's standards or by BMI standards? Because this is about BMI.

My mother was like that, but she herself was overweight. I think she did it to make herself feel better.

@Starmaiden True, though people don't realize that you can be 'overweight' but also healthy.
