borrowing some things is shameful or not??

peoples have now a days self respect and inner dignity. even relative do not want take some thing borrow from a relatives too. friends feel shame for requesting from his/her friend for taking some things on borrow.
i think in this way distances increases and closeness decreases.we should not feel hesitation to take borrow from relatives or friends
what to do if i need some things i don't have it my own..should i take it from my friend or relative some days or not
