Year End Talk: A Year that was .. 2019 : Sports talk

As discussed in one of my earlier post, I asked folks if they did post "Year that was.....". Not many do it. Yet I decided to do so. So, A Year that was.. 2019 : I would be talking about Sports today. First, cricket talk. India did well in test series and other forms of cricket as well. Rohit Sharma scored 2400 plus runs in all the formats of the game combined - Tests, ODIs(One day matches) and T 20. And he also hit many sixes in all the formats. Virat Kohli too has been in a great form this week, and many wins as a captain makes for an icing on the cake. One disappointment was India's unexpected loss to the Kiwis in the World Cup semi finals. As for the other teams, England and Kiwis' world cup finals made big headlines. One for the terrific and so close and exciting match. Second for the wrong reason of the English team being awarded the cup on the basis of more boundaries scored. The issue became so controversial that this rule has now been changed. Among other teams, this year made for the Aussies' redemption in the Ashes series vs England. Among other sports, Novak Djokovic won a record seventh Australian Open title, and also won his fifth Wimbledon, beating Roger Federer in five sets. Rafael Nadal claimed the other two - French and US Open. Nadal is now next only to Roger Federer, who has 20 titles. I did not follow Football much, but Christiano Ronaldo won a few more awards. And on the downside, Russia has been banned from the next Olympics due to doping cases. 2020 would be the year of Tokyo Olympics. So let us see which nation wins how many medals. Perhaps, you folks can add to my knowledge.
