Filipino Online Store is Closing

I live in the midwest where the nearest Asian store is a 2-hour drive away. Whenever I am craving for some Filipino snacks or canned goods, or even our rice stick noodles, I would place an order online at filstop.com. They have a brick and mortar store, but they also cater to online orders. This works fine for me and I have been a customer for over 2 years. Unfortunately, I just received news that effective today, they are no longer accepting online orders. They will still have their stores, but these are in another state. Now I am on a lookout for a new online Filipino store. I know that we will be living here for a while because of work, so I have to rely to planned trips outside of town or ordering online for any Filipino foods fix. My husband, on the other hand, is a bit glad that I will no longer be able to cook "tuyo" (fried dried fish) for a while because I do not have easy access to it anymore. For now.

That is so true. I was able to coax him one time to try it though since he eats shrimps. He said it's not for him. I could never make him try dried fish though - that is a strong no for him.

@hereandthere My husband can eat it, provided it is cleaned, which means no scales or heads. For some reason everyone here (locals) do not like to see fish heads when they eat their fish. So our daing na bangus, even the ones marinated like how he wanted it to is a no-no because these are usually packed with the heads intact.

I understand why your husband is glad with the 'no tuyo' in the house. I do not like the smell too. but I am sorry to hear this news.

You don't like the smell too? Most of the people I know think that the smell is mouth-watering But I understand what you mean, and it is definitely not for everyone. I do have an agreement with the husband that I can only cook dried fish outside on our back porch - we have a grill that has one stove on the side that I use. Whenever I cook "tuyo" there, the neighbors' cats make an appearance and start to hangout in our back yard. Good thing we have quite a distance from our nearest neighbors. I can just imagine what they would think if they smelled this.

@Raine38 I grew up not eating tuyo and sardines. My grandma do not like to eat those since we live before in Caloocan, we usually have fresh fish from the market for her to cook

@rakski I see, you all probably prefer the fresh kind. I don't blame you - I would prefer the fresh from the catch kind too.

I am sorry to learn that the store where you made online purchases has closed down. Hopefully a new store to replace the store that closed will open soon.

I hope so too. For now, Amazon is my only choice but it is not as well-stocked and as varied as that specialty store.
