More Than Social Media for Networking...

There is something to be said about following authors on social media. I follow authors, receive their newsletters, enter their giveaways, but have never read their books. I enter their giveaways so that I CAN read their books without going out and looking for them at bookstores or the library. And who doesn't love winning a free book... or anything. One author had a newsletter giveaway wherein she asked us our goals for 2020 and to reply to the email to answer and enter. I replied that I wanted to get my novel published this year. She actually responded asking if there was anything she could do to help. I was stunned but figured she was just being polite. After a couple of days I responded saying I was re-writing my first chapter in the new year, would she be interested in reading that first chapter. She actually replied that she would! How's that for motivation? I have to get to that and since I have writing group this Sunday, now is the time to do it so I can actually have something to read at group this week as I never do. I don't really know this author, never read her books, but if she is willing to give input I'm not going to turn that down. Sometimes I think I go overboard with all the author giveaways I enter but it's times like these when I realize that it's not just about winning a new book but it is another form of networking and making important connections. I may not win the giveaway but I've won a connection, perhaps mentor, maybe even a friend. And I will probably make the effort to purchase one of her books to read. Time to work on that first chapter.

@crazyhorseladycx Not even. I am up at 7am (awake since 6) with my novel running through my head keeping me awake (less than 5 hours sleep - hopefully I will be able to go back to bed). I am going to work on it some more.
